Kahnawake Schools Re-open September 1st

Written by on 3 August 2020

Back to school in the community begins on Tuesday September 1st. Robin Delaronde who is the Director of Education at the Kahnawake Education Centre, appeared on Monday’s Morning D and says they still have a great deal of work to do. Especially in case of an outbreak of COVID-19. She says it’s something they must prepare for.

“Part of the re-entry plan is that when students do go into our schools, they are trained and learn how to go on on-line learning right away. So if you should have to close a classroom, you immediately are going to then provide the on-line learning supports at home, until it is safe for them to re-enter.

Getting your children to school will also look different. Robin Delaronde says there will be fewer students per bus.

Parents will need to see what it looks like if your child is taking the bus and understand there is limited capacity. We’re more than likely going to be encouraging parents to drive their children to school, that’s an option. But that also becomes a bigger issue of coordinating times. It’s easy to say drop you’re child off but there is traffic flow, there is the monitoring as they enter, there is the busing and the safety.”

The KEC has been working with the MCK’s bussing department to make sure everything works as smoothly as possible.
