First Positives in More Than 3 Months in Kahnawake

Written by on 29 September 2020

The Kahnawake COVID-19 Task Force has elevated the alert level in the community to Orange after at least two community members recently tested positive for the novel coronavirus. “There have been some positive cases in the community,” said Lloyd Phillips the Commissioner of Public Safety. “We know this has shaken the community. The virus is certainly still around us and now unfortunately there are some positive cases in the community.” They are the first new cases in Kahnawake since late June.

The Orange level brings with it some new restrictions. “Effective immediately, gatherings, private gatherings are now limited to a maximum of six (6) people and public gatherings are now limited to a maximum of 25 people,” Phillips said.

The Task Force Inspectors will be stepping up their checks on businesses. They are also strongly recommending against entering any Red Zones in the province for now. The Montreal region and Quebec City will be elevated to that alert status at midnight Wednesday.

An alert from the local Public Health team in Kahnawake states that any community member who attended a funeral at Poissant Funeral home on September 18 between 3:30 and 5:30 is being asked to self-isolate until this coming Saturday. If you develop COVID-19 related symptoms please contact the KMHC testing site to arrange for testing at 450-638-3930 ext. 2275 or 2296.
