They are doing their own version of a Winter carnival this year at Karonhianónhnha school because of the pandemic. Sarah Kanietahawi Phillips is the Interim Principal:
“We’re doing our own like mini carnival in the spirit of the winter carnival, because it’s usually a big thing for the community and we can’t really take part the way we usually do this year, we still want to have the children experience something in the spirit of winter carnival.”
Phillips says they have come up with their own plan that will have the students outdoors every day through Thursday:
“We have certain times for certain classes so that way they’re not all mixing outside they’re still staying in their bubbles. They’ll be doing snowshoeing, scavenger hunt, sliding, decorating, snowmen, capture the flag, just going on a nature walk, snow painting, target shooting with snow balls, that kind of thing. We have something se-up for everyday.”
