Public Health Directives Announced: 1 Child In Hospital

A grim set of announcements for Kahnàwake coming from public health. From a live Kahnàwake 911 broadcast, Lisa Westaway of the KMHC expects projections for the Covid-19 Omicron variant could top 10 thousand positive cases in Quebec as of January, with a 6 times infection rate forecast. Westaway alluding in her presentation to a local child being hospitalized with COVID-19, with continued community vigilance being vital to staying safe.
Also appearing on Kahnawake 911, Robin Delaronde, Director of Education of the KEC (Kahnawà:ke Education Center) talking about the new reality we are facing in the Covid-19 Variant world we now live in. Based on projections and impacts on the community, the school calendar will change for the education sector with classes under the KEC banner, with classes now set to restart after the holiday season only on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022.
For those frontline workers and essential services, a plan for these parents will be unveiled by the KEC on Monday. Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips saying projections for the new variant are not encouraging, adding that rules will come back into place in response. Public Health saying that masks will be required in restaurants and gaming locations with those establishment seeing a reduction to 50% capacity. Indoor private gatherings will remain at 12, with masks recommended. Sports tournaments have been cancelled as a result of the latest information on the worldwide variant effects.
