An inquiry into sexual abuse against a Kateri School educator, investigated by the Eastern Door, led to the firing of the employee. The victim was a minor when the abuse occurred and for that reason the names of all involved in the case remain under lock and key. The Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) did make a statement where they announced that the investigation had come to a completion, following the August, 2021 allegations. In their research, the Eastern Door’s Steve Bonspiel discovered the name of the independent investigators, uncovering information that the family of the victim had not been privy to knowing. The family, who had faith in the teacher in question, taking all the news hard, saying the impact on the victim has been devastating. The victim opened-up to the community news organization for self-healing and to bring awareness to abuse in Kahnàwake. The KEC saying this week that they will continue to collaborate with Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS), while respecting the privacy of all those involved in the case.
