Kahnawake Roads Mostly Clear But Still Slick

Written by on 6 December 2021

We received approximately 11 centimetres of snow overnight. That has changed into freezing rain and rain, making it difficult and messy driving conditions this morning.

“They said they got most off the snow off of the roads,” Terry Diabo Jr, the Roads and Highway Manager at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake told K1037 News. “They’re ready to go. They’re standing by and salting as needed. As far as I know all the major roads and highways and everything right now is all up to par. So, as it changes they’ll be out there.”

Diabo says his department had at least six plows out overnight. But he says the change to freezing rain is complicating things.

“Everybody give the plows a chance. Stay out of their way. They’re doing their best right now and hopefully it’s not going to be too bad with the freezing rain,” Diabo said.
