New Paratransit Bus in Kahnàwake

A new paratransit bus has made its debut in Kahnàwake. It was officially launched this morning by Connecting Horizons with the goal of increasing options for Kahnawa’kehró:non of limited mobility. Iris Phillips is the advocacy coordinator for Connecting Horizons:

“It’s extremely important, I mean, people with mobility issues have always had these massive challenges that able bodied people like ourselves don’t have, you know, where you can get into your car and do your groceries, people with disabilities can’t always do these things and this is what we’re trying to do is to get the message out that we’re here for everyone. Whether you just want to do something social, or you need to get some chores, everyday things done, that’s what we’re here for, we’re here to help.”

Michael Dell was the first official passenger this morning. The K1037 “Walk in My World,” show host has been a driving force to getting this project rolling:

“How important is this for the community? It will give people with special needs greater autonomy and they can go out like what people take for granted: go to movies, go to the grocery store. It will give them a sense of autonomy and pride.”

Dell is a member of Connecting Horizons, supporting individuals with disabilities, their families as well as caregivers.
