A coach with ties to Kahnàwake – is off to his 5th Olympic games. Marc Granger, known as Nipper, has coached for years at the Onake Paddling Club. He is coaching the Canadian women’s Canoe team in Tokyo. The first time that women are racing Canoes in the Olympics:
“In 2004, Adam Van Koeverden was in my group and he ended up winning a gold medal at the Athens games and that created a spark on the team that if Adam can do it then so could the others. And I think that’s what happened with our team, is that when they, if they see someone can make it and the dream starts, it’s the same thing when they saw Adam win the medal for a lot of athletes, you know, right away, was like if Adam can win a medal, he’s just like us, we’re all training together, we can dot it.”
