70 and Over in Kahnawake Vaccinated at 50 Percent

The COVID-19 Task Force in Kahnawake is hoping that more people choose to get vaccinated.  Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips says they compiled the statistics on Monday for those who have received the vaccine so far. They broke it down by age category. “It was surprising to see that 50 percent of the people 70 years of age have not been vaccinated,” Phillips said. “Since the beginning we were talking about the most vulnerable population in our community are the people 70 plus and at this stage to have roughly only half of those people vaccinated is somewhat alarming. A plea to the family and friends of those individuals to encourage them to get vaccinated.”

The temporary vaccination center is open at the Mohawk bingo on Highway 138 Tuesday through Saturday. You can book your appointments through: www.kahnawake911.com/vaccine and go to ClicSante, or by calling 450-638-3930 Ext. 2295 or 2206.

“We’ve been in this a year now and to protect the most vulnerable and here’s the opportunity to protect yourself and we certainly hope that people are going to take that opportunity very seriously,” Phillips said.
