The wearing of masks in indoor public spaces and business will soon be mandatory in Kahnawake. The COVID-19 Task Force made the announcement this morning on K1037.
Lloyd Phillips is the Commissioner of Public Safety. “Looking at all the facts about issues around masks, when to wear them, when not to wear them? Looking at what’s happening around us, it was decided that we are going to be having a very similar policy for the community that masks will become mandatory in all public places,” Phillips said.
The details, including a start date in for the new policy Kahnawake, will be released later today. Meanwhile the wearing of masks in indoor public spaces becomes mandatory in the rest of the province this Saturday.
Lisa Westaway is the Executive Director of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre. “I know that Quebec is putting the onus on businesses,” Westaway said. “I know that if they are going to fine, they are going to fine business owners, but that’s not really the angle that we wanted to take here. This is up to individual responsibility and education. We are not putting all of the onus on businesses. In fact businesses were asking us to make this mandatory so that they have a reason to actually block people from entering their place of work. It may actually improve the situation for business owners rather than make it more difficult because this is across the board now.”
