Elders Lodge Resident Now Negative for COVID-19

Written by on 15 January 2021

Some potential good news on Thursday, a day after a positive COVID-19 test was announced for a resident at the Turtle Bay Elders Lodge. Lisa Westaway, the Executive Director at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre, appearing on Kahnawake 911, says the test earlier this week came back as a weak positive.

“When we retested the Elders Lodge patient yesterday, the results came in today, and the results were negative,” Westaway said. “So that is really, really good news. With the three negative COVID screens prior, the weak positive, and then the negative test result that we received today, we are quite confident that this resident was not contagious during her stay at the Elders Lodge.”

Westaway says if all goes well, all residents can emerge from their current isolation later  today (Friday). They have been in isolation since it was announced on December 31, 2020 that two staff members tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) says that Mohawk Online Limited (MOL) is turning over a $3 million dollar dividend to the Kahnawà:ke Economic Relief Measures Fund (KERM) The money is in addition to the $1M emergency dividend MOL declared in April 2020, which was also used for the KERM.

The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force is introducing new measures regarding outdoor rinks.:  Rink surface use must be limited to one (1) household at a time. Signs will be posted at public rinks to that effect.  The Sports & Recreation Unit will implement an hourly sign-up schedule to ensure fair usage.
