Diabo and Norton Run for Tioweró:ton Committee Seat

Written by on 28 July 2020

Two community members have submitted Letters of Intent to be candidates for the Tioweró:ton Committee Community Member Representative. The election will be held in Kahnawake on Thursday. The candidates are Michael Diabo and Lester Norton who has had a cabin there since the early 1990’s. Norton says he has some concerns that he would like to address. “With the four wheelers,” Norton said. “The overall policies that are there such as the fishing. To get a better understanding for a lot of people about the overfishing and what we could do about it. If there’s other lakes that can be fished and even the hunting practices.”

In the interest of fairness and balance Michael Diabo was offered an interview from K1037 News, but declined.

“May the best man win, that’s all I could say,” Norton said. “He’s a good guy, Mike. He’s my friend. He has concerns and his heart is there. I wish him the best of luck.”

Voting takes place on Thursday from 9am – 3pm at the Golden Age Club parking lot. Voters must be on the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Registry.

For safety purposes, there will be only one entrance and exit to the site. Community members are required to wear a face mask and use the hand sanitizer provided before completing a ballot.
