$84 000 has been raised to construct a new lacrosse facility in Kahnawake.
Kirby Joe Diabo is a lacrosse coach and behind the effort to plan and construct a cover for the outdoor rink by the old radio station in Kahnawake.
“It was a few people who suggested that there needs to be an upgrade with the rink. The girls who do the raffles came to me and said maybe we should start putting the money to the rink and right there itself, boom, the light came on. This is what we could do because they’re here now, the raffles, we might as well use them and everybody’s going to benefit from them.” he tells K1037 News.
Diabo hopes to raise more money and come up with a plan and then turn to local skilled tradespeople to build the covering and bring lacrosse training into the 21st century.
“We’re not messing around. Let’s get everybody together. We’ve got all the town to build this.” he says.
