Some New Measures Against COVID-19 in Kahnawake

One new case of COVID-19, and one has recovered, meaning there are still 14 active cases of COVID-19 in the community according to Kahnawake’s Public Health team at the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center (KMHC).
New public health measures are in effect in Kahnawake. All businesses are required to keep a registry of customers to help in contact tracing. That registry will need to include an individual’s full name, phone number and the time of entry and departure.
There is also a change in testing protocol. Runny nose and congestion are no longer considered a primary symptom of COVID 19. So nose swabs if you’ve got those symptoms. Masks are mandatory indoors in all common areas – regardless of physical distancing – and outdoors only if you aren’t fully vaccinated and can’t keep a two metre distance. In an address to the community on the KTV YouTube channel. Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer said it’s important to stay vigilant.
“There’s still a number of people in the community who are not vaccinated, so we all, if you’re in public spaces we need to continue with the masking and distancing and so forth,” she said.
