Two Staffers Test Positive At Independent Living Centre

Two staff members at the Independent Living Centre (ILC) in Kahnawake have tested positive for the coronavirus.

“We had a staff member last week that had been feeling ill and stayed home last Wednesday,” said Derek Montour, the Executive Director of KSCS, which oversees the operation of the ILC.

“On Monday they were still feeling ill so they came in to get tested at the COVID testing site and tested positive. So we then did the contact tracing and realized there may have been a second staff member. They were tested as well and that person was also positive.”

Montour says actions were immediately stepped up to prevent further spread.

“We’ve taken measures of course to isolate all of the residents at the Independent Living Centre, as well as put in measures to support that isolation such as hot meals and other steps. We’re testing all residents today as well as all the staff that may have gone into the building during these last couple of weeks and may have theoretically been exposed to the virus,” Montour said.
