Trick or Treat: With Safety Measures In Place
Written by Paul Graif on 30 October 2020
Trick or treating will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday in Kahnawà:ke, with new COVID-19 Task Force safety measures in effect for the Halloween weekend. The Task Force releasing the guidelines for this year’s festivities back on October 16th, declaring Kahnawà:ke’s Halloween for locals only.
The Task Force is also reminding Kahnawa’kehró:non to wash their hands when preparing goodie bags and wear a mask when answering the door as well as ensuring that children bring hand sanitizer with them and use it when necessary. When the trick-or-treaters return home, they should immediately wash their hands, remove their costumes, then wash their hands again before sorting their treats. And remember that not everyone is comfortable with Halloween this year, and therefore we must respect the fact that some people don’t wish to participate as not everyone is comfortable having people coming to their homes at this time.
Community members should place hand sanitizer by the door and sanitize between guests it is recommended that if you are going to distribute candy to kids, you should do so at a safe distance by utilizing a pool skimmer, lacrosse stick or even a slide while suggesting that treats should not be distributed from a large bowl.
There will be additional Peacekeepers patrols on the road on tonight for the traditionally mischievous Mat Night and Saturday for Halloween.
