Five tickets were handed out by the Kahnawake Peacekeepers to people in the community for contravening COVID-19 restrictions after a gathering was held at a private residence on Sunday evening. “We received a complaint and Peacekeepers investigated,” said Peacekeeper Chief Dwayne Zacharie. “They went there. They practiced community policing first. They gave people the opportunity to comply with the directives that the Task Force set. They returned back and most people complied. Those who didn’t received fines.”
Those fines are for $1541 each and are the first fines handed to community members since the beginning of the pandemic.
