The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 in Kahnawake: Shortened Poppy Campaign

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 219 in Kahnawake begins their abbreviated Poppy selling campaign tomorrow in the community. Branch Manager Peter Pitt Jacobs says they will only be on sale for 4 days this year.
Legion President Ray Deer will make sure the poppies are available around town.
“He’s going to be passing up the trays at various businesses and I’m going to be at the Legion from ten in the morning to two in the afternoon on October 28th, October 30th, November 3rd and November 5th. We’ll have the dreamcatcher pins, car poppies and the beaded poppies.”
This year, The Legion is also doubling as the site for the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center’s Flu shot clinic. COVID has certainly presented some extra difficulties.
“This is really our major fundraiser, last year we did about thirty-five hundred ($3,500). We’re not like the outside Legions. They make 10, 20 thousand dollars. We’re just a small town but we do pretty good on the donations because the poppies are basically free and you just make a donation.”
