An Apology From Chief Frank McComber

Written by on 23 October 2020

Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Chief Frank McComber issued an apology to the community for a trip that he embarked on last week that was out-of-province. As he told us live on K1037 Monday on ‘The Morning D’, it was to bring medicine and food to his niece and her family who were in isolation at their home in 6 Nations, this after all of them tested positive for COVID-19:

“My sorry is for the credibility of the Task Force; that was my number one concern. And of course for the concern for the community and the Council of Chiefs who, for them to have to worry that I did not follow the guidelines or the rules that were put in place for a purpose and that was never my intent.”

Chief McComber may not have broken any specific directives, but he says that he realizes that isn’t the point:

“Just looking back, you know the optics, I guess, really didn’t look good on where I am on the Task Force as a liaison for the Council of Chiefs. So, it kind of didn’t look good on that part and maybe, and the thought that I guess I felt like I could do something without there being any consequences to it.”
