Dreams Take Flight: Cancelled

Written by on 16 June 2020

This year’s Dreams Take Flight has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announcement, all events, fundraisers and the flight to Disney have been cancelled due to the health and safety effects of the coronavirus. Joe Delaronde is the spokesperson for the MCK:

“Many other events have been cancelled, Dreams Take Flight is just among the many of hundreds if not thousands of events cancelled around Canada and around that world for that matter.”

The MCK has been involved in the program since 2005. During that time dozens of Kahnawà:ke children have experienced the trip of a lifetime.

“It’s very disappointing, but it’s not surprising, over the years this has provided joy to a lot of families and especially the kids who have been fortunate enough to take that flight from Montreal down to Disney for the day and come back later that night. I know I’ve been there to see them off and I’ve been there when they’ve returned on a number of occasions. It’s just a wonderful event, so, hopefully with Covid-19 here, we’ll finally be rid of it at some point and maybe by next year Dreams Take Flight will be back.”

Dreams Take Flight, a volunteer-based charitable organization dedicated to providing a magical experience to disadvantaged children – at no cost to the kids or their families.
