Ice Fishing Hut Sustains Major Damage

An ice fishing hut was heavily damaged overnight on the ice in Kahnawà:ke.

Kirby Joe Diabo, owner of Reel ’em In Bait Shop, says the hut is one of 4 belonging to him. He says the hut was located on the ice to the right of the Kahnawà:ke Marina, and he suspects that someone rammed into it with a vehicle.

“[I’m] very disappointed, that’s for sure” said Diabo. “I’m sure it was an accident, y’know, just- info is needed. I put a lot of work into what I do out there, and I just need some info on it”.

Nobody has come forward claiming responsibility for the damage, which Diabo says will cost at least $1,000 to repair. “Well material ain’t cheap” Diabo said. “Brand new, they cost three grand to build. I actually just bought that one- just, just got it. Didn’t even really get to use it yet”.
