Peacekeepers Give Warning About Telephone Scam

The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers (PKs) are warning the community about a telephone scam going around.

In a post on social media, the PKs say that community members have reported receiving calls from unknown persons claiming to be a lawyer. The caller informs the victim that a family member of theirs has been arrested, then asks for some type of payment in exchange for their release.

The caller is said to have asked the resident to leave the payment in their mailbox for pickup, after which the family member would supposedly be dropped off.

The PKs emphasize that no law enforcement agency or lawyer would conduct business in this manner. Anyone who has made a payment of this type is urged to contact them at 450-632-6505.
