Ship Runs Aground at the Marina

A ship is blocking the Kahnàwake Marina, having veered off-course and into the area. Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips on scene, declaring that the liner ran aground at approximately 6:40 pm on Thursday evening. Following a ‘360 inspection’ of the vessel and through declaration by the ship’s crew, there was no breach of the hull detected. At this time there is no indication of any fuel leaks or damage to the ship’s hull. The ship is currently blocking the entire Seaway at an approximate 45 degree angle. Phillips saying that emergency services were dispatched along with public safety to assess the damage and to arrive at a quick analysis of the situation. It appears as though the ship has not incurred any structural damage and it was determined to not be physically lodged against the rocks in the vicinity of the Marina. Public Safety has been in communication with the Seaway Authority and the ship’s captain, both confirming that the vessel is not carrying hazardous materials. The boat will remain in place until some point on Friday, when tugboats and any other assistance necessary will be on site. Environmental Services is on scene along with Public Safety, ensuring that everything is under control.
