Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) has closed its office in Kahnawà:ke due to safety over the building’s structural integrity. “We received a report that the upstairs floor is abnormally soft in some places, the ceiling beams are warped, and, above all, cracks have appeared in some places,” said a contact from ISC. The MCK’s Asset Management Unit conducted a thorough assessment of the building’s structure on Wednesday.
As previously announced, the ISC Kahnawà:ke office is scheduled to relocate to Complex Guy Favreau in Montreal, early next year.
In the interim, community members can access ISC services by phone, by calling 1-800-263-5592 and choosing option 1. You can also access online services at: www.canada.ca/Indian-status-card
