Library Closed: Structural Safety Concerns

If you haven’t returned a book from the library, here’s hoping late fees won’t be charge. The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) announced that the Skawenni:io Tsi Iewennahnotáhkhwa Library building has been closed until further notice for safety concerns. Following a joint inspection performed by the Occupational Safety & Health and Asset Management Architectural Technical team, the building was recommended to be vacated until a structural engineer could confirm its safety.

The Trailers next to the Kahnawà:ke Labor Office building have been secured as a temporary location for the Summer Book Club. The MCK Organizational Development Unit staff, who also occupy the building, will work offsite until further notice.

The community will be updated as new developments occur.
