The Social Assistance Program in Kahnawake released the latest ‘Inflation Fund Benefit.’ From April to September of this year, the Benefit is geared towards food and household supplies. This on top of a ‘Summer Essential Benefit’ that will be released Friday. The amount of the benefit will vary, depending on the number of clients per file. Alan John Rice is the Executive Operations Officer at the MCK:
“This has been on-going over the past 2 years where there has been increased benefits due to inflation. So what’s happening now, what you are seeing in the communique was just an approval of funding to go out over the summer, in the winter we do a winter clothing and heating benefit. In the summer we are doing a ‘Summer Essential Benefit,’ essentially understanding that with school being finished, more children will be home so there’s going to be an increased cost.”
$900 000 in total that comes from Indigenous Services Canada is being dispersed. It amounts to $300 per adult and $200 per dependent. This is a one-time-only benefit, with more information available through Client-Based Services at 450-638-0500.
