Mercier Bridge Dons Indigenous Works of Art
Written by Jeremy Zafran on 2 July 2024
The works of 11 Indigenous artists once again adorning both sides of the Mercier Bridge. The reprinted banners of original works, which were hung up this spring, were the same works from last year. Jasmin Gunn of Kanesatake has a banner entitled Grasp. It captures the moment a plump salmon is caught by a hungry bear.
“I was fortunate to be included with so many other great artists. It was more like a volunteer position, rather than ‘to be chosen.’ There was space enough for 12 artists and there are 11. I have driven over the bridge and I have seen it, it’s on the northbound section, so when I’m leaving Kahnawa:ke, I’m reminded that I’m also a part of each community and it’s really nice to be up there.”
