Unofficial MCK Nominees List Released

The Unofficial list of Nominees for July’s Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) elections has been released. Four (4) were nominated for Grand Chief, and Twenty (20)  for the eleven (11) positions of Council Chief, including 7 incumbents. Electoral Officer Angus Montour is now verifying the eligibility of all candidates, 2 of whom were nominated in both categories. They have until tomorrow at Noon to choose the one position they wish to run for. That is the deadline for all to accept their nominations

Incumbent Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, former elected member Gina Deer, Cody Diabo and Paul Rice are all unofficially in the running for Grand Chief. Cody and Paul were also among the nominees for Chief. There are at least 4 openings among the 11 Chief positions.

Mike Delisle resigned and took a full-time job in the Kaniekehaka registry. Harry Rice and Lindsay LeBorgne opted to retire. And in a surprise move Jessica Lazare chose not to run after serving 1-term on council.
