MCK Chiefs Blackout for Elections
Written by Jeremy Zafran on 17 May 2024
With elections upcoming, Lisa Lahache along with Chief Political Advisor at the MCK, Winnona Polson-Lahache, were on MCK Friday on K1037, where they made an announcement concerning Chief availabilities. Lisa Lahache, is the MCK Political Press Attaché:
“We have a media blackout for Chiefs, starting at 4pm today, the Chiefs will no longer be the point-of-contact for anything that comes from the Mohawk Council, the point-of-contact will be Winnona and myself (Lisa). Any press announcements, media relations, they won’t be attributed to a specific Chief. The reason for that is with elections coming up, we ant everybody to have an even playing field when it comes to the elections.”
May 25th is the planned candidate’s night for the upcoming election. Polson-Lahache on another reason for the Chiefs blackout:
“It’s just for re-routing who the representatives speaking on behalf of the organization are and that’s done to make sure that the incumbent Chiefs that are sitting now are not given an unfair advantage of when they are speaking to issues having an advantage of, on behalf of MCK, exclusive media time because they’re reporting on an issue. So, we do that as a preventative measure.”
This approach is done in every election cycle.
