The Kahnawake Peacekeeper’s encourage the community to continue to make safe choices, if you choose to consume, have a designated driver. This as the statistics from the PK’s were released today on rides provided during this past weekends Pow-Wow. Kyle Zachary is a spokesperson with the Peacekeepers:
“I had taken a meeting with a couple representatives from KSCS earlier the week before on an initiative that they had come up with to provide a safe ride home for people who were going to be consuming alcohol or other substances during the celebrations that follow the Pow-Wow especially on the Friday and Saturday nights. There were a lot of events planned around the community and the goal was to minimize peoples’ impaired driving within the territory.”
Zachary saying that many community members were provided with safe rides home:
“Come Monday morning, they updated us that they provided 54 rides to individuals within the community. During that time we conducted spot-check operations; we opened 3 separate interceptions of vehicles to check for impaired driving and we did have to make 1 arrest. But, one arrest compared to giving 54 rides home, those are good numbers to us. We’re really happy about that.”
