Wahiio Delisle Captures MCK By-Election

Written by on 5 November 2022

Iohahiio (Wahiio) Delisle will be joining the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake after capturing Saturday’s by-election to replace Alan-John Rice’s seat at the table. Delisle captured 110 of the 245 votes cast at Karonhianónhnha School and at a special advanced poll on Wednesday. Stephen Angus McComber finished in the runner-up position with 82 votes, while David A. Diabo received 52 votes.

“I’m feeling very honoured and grateful and loved right now,” Delisle told K1037 News.

He begins his new job Monday morning.

“Time to get to work. I’m honoured,” Delisle said.

A second by-election is expected to be called this week by Electoral Officer Angus Montour in order to fill the seat that was vacated in the wake of Barton Goodleaf’s resignation.
