Some School Delays Because of Bus Shortage in Kahnawake

Written by on 18 October 2022

Four school buses are in the shop at the town garage. That is why Bus 4 that takes students to Howard S. Billings High School in Chateauguay has been 20-30 minutes late on Monday and Tuesday. The driver of Bus 4 has actually had to wait for another bus to return from its run before she could begin picking up the students and take them to school.

Spencer McComber, the Daily Transportation Manager with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake says that busing to local schools is not affected, but there are some delays for those being bused outside of the community.

“We have two in the garage right now taken apart,” McComber told K1037 News. I was out earlier getting parts trying to get them back on the road. I have one at a garage in Chateauguay awaiting parts, and I have the last mini-bus awaiting parts from Bluebird for repair.  We have a few issues beyond our control. We can’t just magically have another bus.”

McComber says his department has put a plan into place to make sure that everyone gets to school on time on Wednesday.
