Pier Work Causes Service Road Detour Underneath Mercier Bridge

The 132/138 West service road underneath the Mercier Bridge in Kahnawake will be completely closed tonight (Wednesday) from 10 pm to 5 am tomorrow. It’s to reconfigure the road as rehabilitation of the piers underneath the bridge gets underway.
“Starting tomorrow morning, when you’re travelling down the 132/138 West, you will need to start using the new detour in place,” Mark Standup, the Safety Officer in charge of traffic management with the Mohawk Bridge Consortium (MBC), told K1037 News. “It will be properly signed. It’s just before the CPR bridge. You’ll do a loop. There’s a traffic light there. Once you pass the light you’ll continue on the normal traffic. But it’s important to remember to watch the signage because everyone is used to just making the straight run. There is now a detour that will be in place as of tomorrow morning.”
Standup says the pier rehabilitation will take two full seasons to complete.
“This detour will be in place from tomorrow morning until mid-December, 2022,” Standup said. “The service road will be reopened at that time for the winter months and will be re-closed next spring (2023) for the entire summer season. Same detour will be put back into place.”
