Convoy Gets Re-Routed Away From Kahnawake

At approximately 12:30 today, a “Freedom Convoy” was expected to travel on the 132 passing through Kahnàwake and over the Mercier Bridge. This convoy launched last Sunday in British Columbia comprised of trucks and vehicles making their way to Canada’s capital to protest vaccination mandates. With the expected traffic over the bridge, the Kahnàwake Peacekeepers were preparing for the drive-through by adding extra patrol units. As the convoy was making its way from St-Bernard de Lacolle on the 15 North, it was detoured at the last minute away from the territory leading to the Mercier Bridge. Kyle Zachary is the Public Relations Officer with the Kahnàwake Peacekeepers:
“We had extra officers on shift, we were ready for the convoy. We had received a request to escort them and we were ready, we were in position. It was literally a matter of moments we were advised that the convoy was re-routed and only motor vehicles, pick-up trucks and cars, were coming through.”
Zachary saying the reasons why the trucks in the convoy were re-routed was unclear:
“We’re not sure who gave them the order to re-route, but we only know that they were re-routed moments before they arrived in our territory.”
Earlier today in a show of solidarity and support for the convoy gathering at the People’s fire along the 132 this morning Kahnawake around 11:30. The Canada-wide “Freedom Convoy” is expected to reach Parliament Hill on Saturday, with Ottawa police saying they expect it to be a “multi-day” event.
