Businesses To Start Re-Opening In Town

Local businesses are catching a break, as of Monday, January 31st. The Kahnawà:ke COVID-19 Task Force announcing that local businesses that were advised to close due to the COVID-19 outbreaks last month, will be permitted to re-open at 50 percent capacity, while maintaining strict public health measures on the 31st of this month. Lloyd Phillips, Commissioner of Public Safety saying that with an expected decrease in hospitalizations and a stabilization of Human Resources within essential services the community can move forward with opening local businesses. Restaurants, Cigar Lounges, Social Clubs & Bars will be permitted to operate at 50% capacity and

Regular operating hours. As for seating, two households per table will be permitted, with no seating at the bar. Proof of vaccination will still be required but that order will be reviewed in 2 weeks, while masking, distancing and hand sanitizing will be required.

In terms of Gaming & Bingo, establishments will be permitted to operate at 50% capacity with regular operating hours, but no poker. A Proof of vaccination will be required and that too will be reviewed in 2 weeks, masks, distancing and hand sanitizing will still be a requirement and no food or beverage service at machines.

The Task Force admitting that although some restrictions are being relaxed, it is important to evaluate the level of risk of the activity for you and your family, with the reminder that you can decrease any level of risk by avoiding certain activities.
