Important information regarding the Kahnàwake Sports Complex re-opening this weekend. Mackenzie Whyte, Interim Director of the Sports & Recreation Unit, at the Mohawk Council of Kahnàwake advising the community of procedures that are being enforced:

“It’s pretty similar to what it was before we closed. So if anybody has shown up to the arena and been a visitor or a skater they’re familiar with the rules, you have to have a vaccination passport if you are 13 and up.”

Whyte says guests will notice one thing that has changed:

“One notable instance of difference and when people come in we’re just going to be checking their vaccination passport, we’re not going to be writing down their name and information because contact tracing is now going to be in the hands of the individuals. We won’t be notifying anybody of potential exposure, it’s too much of a thing, we can’t do that at this time anymore at the rate at which the Omicron is spread.”

Adults and teens must show vaccination passport upon entering and arena staff will not be logging visitors or notifying of potential exposure. Hockey Quebec is not allowing indoor games, tournaments, exhibitions or scrimmages at this time while, leagues and individual teams have been advised to maintain the health and safety of all participants.
