Hockey Set To Return To Kahnawake
Written by Paul Graif on 20 January 2022
Hockey is back in Kahnàwake! Lou Ann Stacey who is in charge of scheduling is a member of the board of directors at the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association:
“We’re very excited the the Kahnàwake Sports Complex will be opening up and (about an hour or so ago) I posted the 1st practice schedule for the return back to Hockey which is exciting.”
The Sports complex has been closed for the last month. The arena is scheduled to reopen on Saturday:
“One team is allowed on the ice at a time. We’re still waiting on the protocols for entrance into the arena and how we can utilize the ice. So for right now it will be one team at a time.”
This does not include games yet. However, that’s not the most important issue according to Stacey:
“I’ve been meeting throughout the holidays with our league, the 30 West and there’s still no indication from them, Lac St-Louis or Hockey Quebec when we’ll be returning to games. Putting the kids back on the ice is a good thing, one to keep them physically active but also for mental health issues. A lot of the kids haven’t had that much to do and we’re hoping that hockey will help make ease it a little bit for them.”
