Step By Step: Concerned About Omnicron

Written by on 21 December 2021

Kahnawà:ke’s Public Health Team and Public Safety are asking parents to keep children at home, if possible. Efforts are being made to reduce contacts in general in order to ensure the safety of community members. With that, Step Early Learning & Family Center will remain open during the current critical phase as required, but it is being recommended that you keep your children at home if at all possible. Natalie Beauvais is the executive director:

“We did see in the previous weeks that the Delta, we got 12 positive cases within what, 6 days. So, with the Omnicom coming and that it’s much more spreadable, we’re really concerned about the probability of us getting another outbreak.”

In an effort to protect compromised individuals, including the elders, services will be available to those in need and with the ever-evolving scenarios, there might be a need to reduce the number of children attending. Beauvais is asking the community for some assistance:

“Right now, around the holidays, if some people are able to keep their children home, kids will be home from school, if they can, however, if they’re not able to were here. We’re going to continue to be here we’re going to continue to be open, we will be closed for 11 days, however afterwards we’re open, not only for essential workers but for those that require respite after the holidays or who cannot find sitters and we don’t want them to compromise our elders or anybody who is immuno-suppressed.”
