Kahnawake Baby Who Was Hospitalized With COVID-19 is Now Recovering at Home

A baby from Kahnawake who was hospitalized with COVID-19 last week, is now home and recovering according to the public health team.

There were six new cases over the weekend, bringing the total to 29 active in the community.

Arnold Lazare who works with the Public Safety team, says he contracted COVID-19 last month.

“It was a bad head cold. I would hate to think if I didn’t have it (Vaccination),” Lazare said. “I met quite a few people who said they really got knocked down and they were glad they were vaccinated because they couldn’t imagine if they weren’t vaccinated what the effects would be.”

New public measures went into effect this morning in the community. Masks now required in restaurants and gaming locations. Most businesses must reduce to 50% capacity. Indoor private gatherings remaining at 12 with masks recommended. Sports tournaments have been cancelled.

Vaccination for those 18 years of age and over in Kahnawake  Tuesday and Wednesday  by appointment only from 9am to 5pm at the Knights of Columbus.

The Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre and the Public Safety Commission are making Covid-19 Rapid Testing Kits available. Kits are being distributed daily from 8am to 4pm through Thursday at the Sports Complex parking lot. One kit, which includes five tests, will be handed out per individual inside their vehicles.
