Peter Paul of Kahnawake has come forward as the owner of the Kahnawake Hotel Project. In a news release issued on Tuesday morning, Paul stated he is pleased with the recent announcement by Quebec’s Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs Ian Lafrenière that $3.3 million was being invested in the project. The statement says the hotel Project has been in development since 2015 with the assistance of Tewatohnhi’saktha and the support of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) since 2017. The Kahnawake Hotel Project will be a hotel under a Banner Name (ie: chain) with Choice Hotels that will be determined soon. The hotel will be located on private land on Route 207 across from Lafleur’s Golf Course. The MCK has not invested any money into the project. But Paul said the MCK and Tewatohnhi’saktha supported his application through the Aboriginal Initiatives Fund.
