Effective immediately, Kahnawà:ke is back to the RED ALERT level, which indicates a high level of risk of getting COVID-19. The Public Safety Commission and Kahnawà:ke Public Health advising the community that the alert is in effect immediately.
The number of active COVID-19 cases has risen drastically in the past 24 hours reaching 19 active cases with over 60 people currently in isolation. The largest volume of cases at this time is with 4-5-year-olds, with impacts at Step by Step and Kateri School.
The Kahnawà:ke Public Health team saying they have been working to keep up with contact tracing required within an acceptable amount of time to control the current transmission levels. These efforts have so far been unsuccessful, increasing the risk of having contagious individuals with COVID-19 in the community without their knowledge.
