Caughnawaga Golf Clubhouse Disappearing After 50 Years

An iconic building on Highway 207 in Kahnawake is being demolished today after standing for exactly 50 years. The old Clubhouse at the Caughnawaga golf club has already been replaced.
“I’ve already said my goodbyes to it,” said James Patton, the General Manager and owner of the club. “A lot of memories for sure but time marches on. We’ve been analyzing the data for years seeing which way it was trending and the changes which we needed to make for sustainability. This is probably the sixth year of a five year plan.”
The new clubhouse has already been in use for the last season. Patton says he will evaluate what to do with the land where the old clubhouse stood, once it is gone.
Patton says he was ready to let the building go. But many of the golfers he says are feeling nostalgic. “Many are expressing sadness because they had a lot of good memories, a lot of good meals, a lot of good times in the old building.”
