Kyla Morris: On A Team That Honours, in Orange

Written by on 1 October 2021

Kyla Morris of Kahnawake is a forward on the Dawson College women’s hockey team. 3 years ago, she first adorned her hockey stick with orange tape to honour the children who attended Residential schools.

On Wednesday, her entire team followed suit and even wore orange t-shirts underneath their uniforms:

“Right from the beginning of the season I had a sticker on the back of my helmet, a lot of the girls were asking me if they could get a sticker as well. So, I organized it and got stickers that would stay on everyone’s helmet. So, right from the beginning of the season all the girls had an ‘Every Child Matters’ sticker on their helmet. About 2 weeks ago I organized a way to get shirts for all of the team, because I knew we were going to have a game the day before (September 30th). So, I also got the orange tape the day of and all of the girls just wanted to be involved and do it with me.”

Kyla Morris and the Dawson Blues with a 3-2 OT win on Wednesday evening against the Edouard Montpetit Lynx. Their next game will be at 12:30pm this coming Sunday against Champlain Lennoxville.
