MCK Not Surprised By Federal Election Results

Written by on 21 September 2021

Another federal election, same result. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have maintained their precarious hold on power with another projected minority government. In results that look very similar to the election held just over tow years ago, the Liberals unofficially took 158 seats, the Conservatives 119, the Bloc Quebecois 34, the NDP 25 and the Green Party with two. Most Cabinet Ministers were re-elected including Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller in Montreal, and Crown Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett. The results were hardly a surprise in Kahnawake.

“I always felt that Trudeau and his government were going to proceed still in a minority government,” Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Grand Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer said. “That’s sometimes a good thing because we don’t have to start all over with some of the government officials that have already been in place at certain tables. So looking forward to us continuing our work in terms of the relationships we’re trying to develop with this government.”
