New Director of Housing Announced

A new Director of Housing has been hired by the Housing Unit of The Mohawk Council of Kahnawa:ke (MCK). MCK Executive Director Onerahtókha Marquis is pleased with the selection:
“The successful candidate for the Director of Housing is Areti Malliarou, she’s an individual with extensive educational background as well as working experience. Her education includes McGill University and Harvard Business School, where she graduated from several programs including the McGill Executive Leadership Experience Program, with a focus on Strategic Business Analysis, Planning, and Innovation Design Thinking. She also attained a Masters Green Belt Lean Six Sigma which is a globally recognized and industry-trusted certification. In terms of her work experience, she has a vast knowledge of project management, strategic planning and implementation as well as business analysis and business planning. Furthermore, she has over 10 years of experience working in a bank.”
The Housing Unit has been overseen by MCK Executive Strategic Officer Richard Basque since the position was vacated back in January. Marquis says she’s fully conscious of the non-local hire:
” I was able to see some of the comments that were made on social media by some community members and I can completely understand where some of them are coming from. Obviously, the ideal situation would have been to hire someone from the community, but I believe the current circumstances at the Housing Unit require a certain skillset to take on the multiple challenges that still exist there. We had several potential candidates for the position, 13 to be exact, which included some Kahnawá’kehró:non. However, Areti’s qualifications were by far the most qualified and she possessed that specific skillset that we were looking for.”
Areti Malliarou begins her new role this coming Monday, August 30th.
