Bay Restoration Project advances

Preparations for work connected with the Tekakwitha Island and Bay Restoration Project, on the south shore of the bay (mainland side), get underway this week. The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office says the first steps include the stockpiling of soil near the pump house. Trucks will operate between 7am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, to deliver the soil, which consists of a mixture of the sediment dredged from the bay and imported sand. Soil quality samples have been completed and KEPO says the soil is clean and suitable for use. The stockpile will be surrounded by sediment fence to contain the soil. The soil will be used for enhancements to the shoreline and modifications to storm sewer outfalls.
