Beach Time!

Written by on 6 July 2021

After months of planning, Kahnàwake’s beach is opening today. Mackenzie Whyte is the Interim Director of Sports and Recreation at the Mohawk Council. Whyte says there will be 2 lifeguards on duty at all times. COVID restrictions are in place:

“Just make sure that people are separated, you have two hand washing stations here, so we ask that people come wash their hands, try to stay in your bubble, do all the usual Covid-safety items that we’ve been doing and are used to now.”

The beach is still in the process of being upgraded and stocked with supplies:

“We’re a little bit pressed for storage, we’re going to have our container delivered in the next few days or at the beginning of next week. But there will be lifejackets if people need to use them or if there is an individual who is mobility-challenged, we’ll have floating wheelchairs they could access.”

They’re hoping to have a party on Friday that will include music and food trucks, with the community welcome to attend.
