A rolling blockade protest is being planned in Kahnawake on Thursday at Noon to protest the birthday of the country in light of the recent discoveries of bodies at the sites of former Residential Schools.
“In protest of what’s going on with all the residential schools and the churches and the bodies being found,” according to co-organizer Chantal Loiselle-Stacey. “This year we shouldn’t be celebrating Canada day at all, whatsoever. There’s nothing to celebrate. So we wanted to show our support and make all Canadians aware of what’s going. This year we definitely shouldn’t be celebrating Canada Day.”
Loiselle Stacey says the protest is open to anyone in the community. They are asking people to arrive at the Peoples Fire off Highway 132 by 11 am. They blockade will then slow roll up the 132 to the boundary and then back via the 138 to the Chateauguay boundary before returning to the fire. “We’re asking everyone to wear their orange t-shits, to buy Canadian flags and fly them upside down and put red hand prints on them. Put on ‘KKKanada’ to show the world that Canada is not this great country that everybody thinks it is. The truth needs to be told.”
