The current Fire Ban has been lifted in Kahnawà:ke, as yesterday’s rain has lowered the risk of fire. According to The Kahnawà:ke Fire Brigade (KFB), the Fire Ban remains in effect in Tioweró:ton, where it has not rained in several days. An alert had been issued last Thursday, June 10th in both Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton. The KFB is reminding community members that safety measures should always be in place for campfires, barbecues and other types of burning and are encouraged to be extra-careful in Tioweró:ton because of the nature of the Territory which consists almost entirely of forest with a lack of firefighting equipment on hand.
