Kahnawake to Emerge From State of Emergency Next Week
Written by Paul Graif on 14 June 2021
After 14 long months the State of Emergency, brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, will expire on Monday June 21, 2021. Kahnawake’s COVID-19 Task Force is presenting to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake on Monday morning. At that time they are not asking for a further 30 day extension of the State of Emergency and mandate for the Task Force.
“We’re not renewing the state of emergency,” Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips said on K1037’s Morning D. “As of next week we’re going to be moving into the recovery phase of the pandemic which outlines my responsibilities as Public Safety Commissioner, and the roles under the law that empower certain entities such as KMHC and public health to carry on certain measures for the next 120 days or so.”
Kahnawake has no active cases of COVID-19 on the territory. The plans remain in place to emerge into Phase three of the four phase recovery and reopening process. This Friday, the community will officially downgrade to a yellow alert status.
